Course content

This 2.5-day course will leave you with knowledge of the ISO 14001 Environmental management systems standard. It can be joined to an additional 2-day module: ‘Becoming a Skilled Lead Internal/External Auditor‘ where participants learn how to conduct management systems audits in accordance with ISO 19011:2018 Guidelines for Auditing Management Systems. • Scope of Quality, Environmental, and OH&S systems within an Integrated Management System
• Requirements of ISO 9001:2015 as underpinning knowledge of other management system requirements

Thursday

Environmental Management Systems

• Enhanced environment performance
• Risk-based environmental aspects and impacts
• Life cycle assessment 
• Requirements of ISO 14001:2015
• Auditing against ISO 14001:2015
• Finish at 12.30pm

Friday

Auditing scenarios

• Review of Environmental Management System requirements
• EMS audit scenarios
• Writing up findings

Qualification

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Attainment which identifies the following Exemplar Global competency:

• Exemplar Global EM – Environmental management systems

This course has the equivalent of 16 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Assessment

Throughout the course, you will complete a series of workshops which form part of the assessment. A short multiple-choice exam at the completion of each module assesses the knowledge and understanding gained throughout the training. You will receive continual assistance and feedback from the trainer and are given anecdotal examples of real world audit situations.

No homework or take-home assessment. 

Who should attend

Designed to cater to people involved in auditing, system development or system maintenance, you should attend if you:

• need to write and implement an Environmental Management System
• are involved in the Environmental Management process
• are managers responsible for their Environmental Management System
• wish to consolidate their existing knowledge into a formal qualification

Prior experience in auditing and management systems is not essential. 

Study Pathway – Where to from here?

If you wish to become a registered third-party, or external Environmental auditor with Exemplar Global, you need to have obtained the competency units from this course and the additional Exemplar Global competency units of AU and TL (via our Becoming a Skilled Lead Auditor or Management Systems Lead Auditor courses).

Once you have obtained these units of competency, you can follow the qualification-based path to become a registered third-party or external auditor.  A full explanation of the requirements to become certified with Exemplar Global can be found here, or contact us for more information.

Additional Exemplar Global competencies for Management Systems auditing (Exemplar Global AU and TL), and/or OH&S Management Systems (Exemplar Global OH 45001), may be added during the same week of training, or attended separately. Competencies Information Security Management Systems (Exemplar Global IS) and Food Safety Management Systems (Exemplar Global FS) may be attended separately.
